Introduction
The Great Lakes region state of Michigan is the eighth most populous one in the United States. As per the Census 2010 the population of Michigan was 9,883,640. In racial terms the population was 78.9% white, 14.2% African Americans, 2.4% Asians and 0.6% American Indians. The economy of Michigan is led by auto, food processing, information technology, aeronautics, military equipment, metals and furniture.
The recession in the early part of the decade, which got exacerbated by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks had a big impact on Michigan’s economy. The state’s economy is now on the recovery path. The state had an unemployment rate of 10.3% according to a report published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2010. As a result of the problems in the economy, the state’s beauty services industry has not kept pace with the growth in population of Michigan. With the economy recovering well, it is expected that the beauty industry too will grow and reach a strong position soon. As per the Occupational Employment Statistics, May 2010, published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics put the number of employed estheticians in Michigain at 1040. By comparison, the number of barbers/cosmetologists/hairstylists stood at 12,090.

Accredited esthetician schools in Michigan
While the Board of Cosmetology allows the option of completing an apprenticeship to be eligible to appear for the esthetician license exam, training is the more preferred route. This is because a good training program imparts the right amount of theoretical knowledge of esthetics as well as cover subjects like customer communications, legal aspects and safety. For this reason trained estheticians are preferred over the others by employers. The list of licensed esthetician schools in Michigan is given below.
